Journey into the Unknown

Journey Into The Unknown is a story about Alzheimer's disease, but even more so, it is a story about the faithfulness of God in the difficult times of life. Arthur Sudan is a physician in Internal Medicine who has taken care of hundreds, if not thousands of patients with Alzheimer's. He has given out much advice to caregivers and would consider himself an expert in the field.

But when his own wife is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease at age 53, he begins a journey into unknown territory - becoming a caregiver himself. He finds that all of his advice and experience over the years, while good, did not prepare him for all that this new job would require. This job takes him totally out of his comfort zone and beyond his giftings. But he is not without resources, and he does not give in to despair.

This book also traces a long line of God's faithfulness to Arthur and his wife, Luana, over the decades before this dreaded disease. He describes how each of these instances becomes like little stones of remembrances that he puts in his alter to God where he worships. This then becomes a well from which he draws when he needs the strength to go on, or to handle a new situation.

This is a story about a real person, with real doubts, questions and struggles. It does not make him out to be a super saint. It does show God to be super, but even more so, to be faithful. As you read their story, you will be encouraged that you, too, can rely on the faithfulness of God when you encounter your own journeys into the unknown.
